Essay Contest 2015.2016

Thank you to those who submitted essays for consideration, the contest is now closed.

The Piedmont Language School Community Fund invites all high school students to submit an essay whose purpose is to highlight the importance of foreign language studies and cultural literacy.

2015.2016 Essay Topic:   

Nelson Mandela said, “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.” What do you think he meant and how does it apply to your own language studies?

Award:  A full scholarship for the Piedmont Community Church Mexico Mission trip in spring of 2016. Winner will be notified the first week of January.

Guidelines:

One submission per person.  Write an original essay in between 500-700 words (typed and double spaced, font size 12 pt.) addressing the topic noted above.  Submit a soft copy to Piedmont Language School via email attachment to piedmontlanguageschool@gmail.com.  Please note essay contest in the subject line.

Judging Criteria:

  • Original thinking relative to the topic
  • Effectiveness in presenting a point of view
  • Style and Grammar
